Top-Rated Wide Receiver Makes Surprise Commitment to In-State Program
In a stunning development, highly touted wide receiver Jordon Gidron announced his commitment to the University of South Carolina on Friday, sending shockwaves through the college football recruiting landscape. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound pass catcher from Columbia, South Carolina, is considered one of the top prospects in the 2026 class, ranked No. 41 overall by national recruiting experts.
Gidron’s decision to reclassify into the 2025 cycle will make him the highest-rated recruit in the Gamecocks’ current class. The news comes on the eve of South Carolina’s crucial Week 6 matchup against No. 12 Ole Miss at Williams-Brice Stadium.
A standout performer at Ridge View High School, Gidron has been a hot commodity on the recruiting trail, attending camps at top programs such as Auburn, Alabama, and Georgia. He also took unofficial visits to North Carolina and N.C. State before returning to Auburn for the Tigers’ Junior Day in July.
Gidron’s commitment to South Carolina comes just three weeks after he visited the Gamecocks for their thrilling 36-33 loss to LSU on September 14. As a sophomore, he hauled in 45 receptions for 731 yards and 10 touchdowns, showcasing his impressive skills as a playmaker.
With Gidron on board, the Gamecocks’ 2025 class now boasts two ESPN-rated prospects, including four-star wide receiver Lex Cyrus (No. 285 in the ESPN 300). The addition of Gidron is expected to significantly boost South Carolina’s recruiting rankings, which currently sit at No. 35 in the nation for the 2025 cycle.
