Australian Football League Star Cleared of Suspension After Tribunal Hearing
In a dramatic turn of events, a prominent Australian football player has been exonerated of a severe penalty after a lengthy tribunal hearing on Sunday night. The player, who was facing a three-game suspension, was found not guilty due to insufficient evidence of high contact.
The incident in question occurred during a match last Thursday, when the player’s hip-and-shoulder tackle left an opposing forward concussed. The tackle was deemed careless conduct with severe impact, but the tribunal ultimately ruled that it was unclear whether high contact was made.
After deliberating for over an hour and a half, the tribunal chair declared that the player was free to continue playing. The chair stated that the footage of the incident was inconclusive regarding high contact, showing only forceful shoulder-on-shoulder contact between the players.
The player provided unequivocal testimony that they only felt shoulder contact with the opposing player. Although the opposing player was thrown backwards by the impact, the tribunal was not convinced that her head hit the ground as a direct result of the tackle.
With the suspension lifted, the player’s team will host a crucial match against Gold Coast on Wednesday night. Meanwhile, the opposing player will miss her team’s upcoming match against Fremantle.
