Champion Midfielder Avoids Surgery, Eyes Early Return to Training
In a welcome relief for the reigning champions, star midfielder Lachie Neale is set to avoid surgery on his injured foot and is expected to resume full training early next year. Neale suffered a concerning injury during the team’s dominant grand final victory, feeling a sudden “pop” in his troublesome left foot. Subsequent scans revealed a torn plantar fascia, but fortunately, the damage is not severe enough to require an operation.
Instead, Neale will spend the next six weeks in a protective boot, followed by a gradual return to training. The club has adopted a cautious approach, ensuring the dual award winner makes a full recovery. This injury typically requires a 12-week recovery period, but Neale’s prognosis is much more optimistic.
The midfielder’s rehabilitation will involve four to six weeks of non-weight bearing exercises, followed by a review of his progress. The team expects Neale to be running by the time pre-season training resumes in November, with a view to him returning to full training after the Christmas break.
Neale’s impressive performance in the grand final, despite managing a lingering “heel issue” for over two months, was a testament to his resilience and dedication. His contributions will be crucial as the team looks to defend its title in 2025.
