Detroit – In a scathing letter to fans, the owner of the Chicago White Sox acknowledged the team’s dismal season, calling it a “complete failure” and taking full responsibility for the disappointing performance.
As the team wrapped up their final game with a record 121 losses, the owner expressed gratitude to fans for their continued support despite the “embarrassing” season. “You deserved better,” the owner wrote. “This season’s performance was unacceptable, and the varying reactions and emotions from our fanbase are understandable.”
The White Sox managed to end their season on a high note, defeating the playoff-bound Detroit team 9-5 in their final game. However, the damage had already been done, with the team setting a new record for most losses in a season since 1900.
The owner, who has been at the helm of the organization since 1981, acknowledged the pain and frustration that came with each loss, saying “Every blown save, every defensive miscue, every shutout, every sweep – hurt.” The owner vowed to take responsibility and work towards earning back the trust and support of the fans.
Interim manager Grady Sizemore, who took over in August, expressed pride in the team’s performance down the stretch, saying “It isn’t just the record, it is the way the guys competed in the last couple of weeks, even the last two months.” Sizemore pointed to the team’s 8-6 finish and their wins in five of their last six games as a sign of hope for the future.
The team’s general manager has already begun the search for a new manager, with Sizemore being considered for the position. The owner emphasized the importance of finding the right leader for the organization, saying “Our organization’s most important decision in the coming months is to evaluate and identify a new manager and leadership voice for this organization.”
