In a significant blow to their defensive lineup, the Seattle Seahawks will be without a crucial player in their upcoming matchup against the Detroit Lions. Inside linebacker Jerome Baker has been ruled inactive due to a hamstring injury, adding to the team’s growing list of absent defenders.
Already missing key players such as defensive end Leonard Williams, defensive tackle Byron Murphy, and outside linebackers Uchenna Nwosu and Boye Mafe, the Seahawks will now have to adapt without Baker’s presence. This marks the second consecutive game Baker will miss due to the hamstring issue, which also kept him sidelined during the team’s Week 3 victory over the Miami Dolphins.
To fill the void, the Seahawks are expected to rely on rookie Tyrice Knight and Drake Thomas at the weakside linebacker position, a strategy they employed successfully last week. Coach Mike Macdonald expressed confidence in his team’s depth, stating, “When you talk about having depth on your football team, you want the feeling to be like, ‘OK, I can’t wait to see whoever’s going to get that opportunity now.’”
In preparation for the game, the Seahawks have elevated veteran outside linebacker Tyus Bowser and nose tackle Quinton Bohanna from their practice squad to provide additional depth. Meanwhile, rookie offensive linemen Michael Jerrell and Sataoa Laumea will also be inactive for the matchup.
A win against the Lions would mark a significant milestone for Coach Macdonald, making him the 11th rookie head coach to start 4-0 since 1970.
