Top-Ranked Prospect Commits to Reigning Champs
In a major coup for the two-time defending national champions, highly touted prospect Darius Adams announced his commitment to the team on Monday. Adams, ranked 19th in the nation, chose the Huskies over Michigan State and Tennessee after taking official visits to each of the three schools.
“It felt like home,” Adams said of his decision. “I didn’t want to leave after the visit. I wanted to get to work.”
Adams developed a strong bond with coach Dan Hurley, who impressed him with his intensity and ability to prepare players for the next level. “He’s relentless on the court and gets his shooters open,” Adams said. “He’s also funny off the court, which I appreciated.”
The 6-foot-5 combo guard from New Jersey, who attends La Lumiere School in Indiana, is considered one of the top shooting guards in the country. He averaged 15.1 points and 5.1 rebounds per game in 12 EYBL Scholastic games as a junior, shooting an impressive 40% from beyond the arc.
Adams is known for his exceptional shooting ability, as well as his skills in driving and finishing at the rim. He also possesses the court vision and awareness to set up his teammates for scoring opportunities. His ability to spot up or move without the ball makes him a threat from anywhere on the court.
“Darius is a high-level guard who impacts the game in many ways,” said La Lumiere coach Pat Holmes. “He’s a true three-level scorer who can score off the bounce and off the catch. He’s also a facilitator who sets up his teammates for opportunities. Defensively, he’s got an edge and toughness that translates to every level of basketball.”
The Huskies are now in the mix for several top high school seniors, including Braylon Mullins, Eric Reibe, Acaden Lewis, and Niko Bundalo, all of whom Adams has mentioned as potential teammates. The team is also pursuing highly ranked prospect Nate Ament.
