In the heart of autumn, a corn maze in Michigan came alive with a vibrant design inspired by the Detroit Lions’ triumphant playoff run. Loretta and Todd Benjamin, die-hard fans and owners of Choice Bar Market in Webberville, Michigan, were determined to create a unique theme for their autumn corn maze. As they watched the Lions’ thrilling victory over the Rams, they knew they had to pay tribute to their beloved team.
The Benjamins reached out to the Lions organization to get their theme approved and began brainstorming designs. Todd’s shirt, featuring a lion’s face with a matching hat that says “GRIT,” caught Loretta’s eye, and its striking pattern became the inspiration for the maze’s look. After some initial hesitation, they decided to go for it, and the result was a stunning corn maze that took around 10 hours to cut.
At the entrance of the maze, visitors can enjoy interactive activities, such as 40-yard dashes and games, inspired by the 2024 NFL draft in Detroit. The maze itself takes about 15 to 20 minutes to walk through, with 10 checkpoints to find along the way. Once the season ends, the corn will be harvested and donated to about 100 customers to use as fuel for heating their homes.
Meanwhile, in Indiana, County Line Orchard created a corn maze of its own, honoring the Fever’s playoff appearance and WNBA Rookie of the Year Caitlin Clark. Dana More, the chief operating officer, was inspired by her nieces’ enthusiasm for Clark and decided to turn their fall corn maze theme into a tribute to the young star. The maze features an image of Clark from the Fever’s media day and offers basketball-related activities, such as mini hoops, and a scavenger hunt-style experience with checkpoints to visit.
