In a significant blow to their defensive line, the Texas-based football team will be without the services of star defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence for an extended period. Sources close to the team have revealed that Lawrence will miss between four to eight weeks due to a Lisfranc injury sustained in his right foot during the recent match against the New York Giants.
The injury occurred in the third quarter when Lawrence landed heavily on his right foot while pursuing the opposing quarterback. Despite initial attempts to continue playing, he was forced to seek medical attention and did not return to the game.
Fortunately, the injury is not as severe as the one that threatened the career of a fellow teammate two years ago. However, Lawrence is likely to be placed on injured reserve, which would keep him out of action for at least four games.
The team’s coach has expressed optimism that Lawrence will make a return to the field in November, although the exact timeline is still uncertain. In the meantime, the team will need to rely on other players to fill the void left by Lawrence’s absence.
One possible solution is to elevate defensive end Carl Lawson from the practice squad, a move that has been made in recent games. Rookie players Marshawn Kneeland and Chauncey Golston also saw action in the recent match and could be called upon to play a bigger role in the coming weeks.
The team’s next few matches will be crucial, with games against the Pittsburgh Steelers and Detroit Lions before a bye week. They will then face off against the San Francisco 49ers on October 27. With Lawrence’s injury, the team’s defense will need to find ways to adapt and overcome his absence if they hope to remain competitive in the league.
