In the wake of injuries to key players, a young star is emerging as a top target for the Kansas City offense. At just 21 years old, Xavier Worthy is now the team’s leading healthy wide receiver, boasting an impressive nine catches, 154 yards, and two touchdowns.
Coach Andy Reid emphasized that Worthy won’t be shouldering the entire load, as the team plans to distribute the ball among its remaining receivers. “We have a solid group of guys who have experience playing in big games,” Reid said. “We don’t need to rely on just one player to make up for the lost production.”
Reid also mentioned that JuJu Smith-Schuster and Skyy Moore could see increased playing time, praising Smith-Schuster’s reliability and Moore’s flashes of brilliance. “Pat [Mahomes] has a lot of faith in [Smith-Schuster],” Reid noted. “He’s still a quality football player.”
Meanwhile, tight end Travis Kelce had a breakout game, hauling in seven passes for 89 yards. “It was great to see him have a big day,” Reid said. “We knew it was only a matter of time before he started making an impact.”
The team also received a boost from the return of Kareem Hunt, who led the team in rushing with 69 yards in his first game back. “We have a lot of trust in Kareem,” Reid said. “He’s picked up the system quickly, and we’re comfortable increasing his workload.”
