Top-flight manager Vincent Kompany has expressed optimism that star striker Harry Kane will be fit to take on Aston Villa in the Champions League on Wednesday, despite being forced off the pitch with an ankle injury during Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Bayer Leverkusen.
Kompany downplayed the severity of the injury, saying “hopefully it’s nothing serious” and expressing confidence that Kane will be ready to face Unai Emery’s team at Villa Park. The German club has also issued a statement confirming a “positive development” in Kane’s treatment and indicating that he will continue to receive intensive care.
Kane, who has a history of ankle problems, was replaced by Thomas Müller in the 86th minute of the match after colliding with Amine Adli. Despite the setback, Bayern Munich dominated the game, racking up 18 shots to Leverkusen’s three, but were unable to find a winner against Xabi Alonso’s resilient side.
Kompany praised his team’s performance, saying “it felt like we did what we had to do to win a tough game.” He acknowledged that Bayern’s attacking style has been improving steadily this season, with the team scoring 14 goals in their previous two matches.
Bayern Munich remains atop the Bundesliga table, two points clear of RB Leipzig and three ahead of Leverkusen. They will face Eintracht Frankfurt in their next domestic fixture on October 6.
