In a dominant display, the United States team claimed their 10th consecutive victory in the prestigious international golf tournament, held at the iconic Royal Montreal course. The American squad’s impressive performance was spearheaded by Xander Schauffele, who carded four consecutive birdies to set the tone for the day.
Sam Burns capped off an unbeaten week, while Russell Henley made a memorable debut in the tournament. Meanwhile, Keegan Bradley, set to lead the Ryder Cup team next year, secured the decisive point when his opponent, Si Woo Kim, missed a crucial 10-foot putt on the final hole.
With several matches still underway, the Americans had already accumulated the necessary 15 1/2 points to secure the win. The International team, despite their valiant efforts, were unable to mount a sufficient challenge, ultimately falling short in their bid to end the US winning streak.
The International team’s sole victory in the tournament’s history dates back to 1998 at Royal Melbourne, a drought that has lasted for over two decades. In contrast, the US team has enjoyed an unbroken winning streak since 2003.
Captain Jim Furyk, who had previously led the US team to defeat in the Ryder Cup, was finally able to savour victory, thanks to the outstanding performances of his players. Schauffele’s impressive win over Jason Day set the tone for the day, while Hideki Matsuyama’s triumph over Scottie Scheffler and Corey Conners’ dominant display against Tony Finau were rare bright spots for the International team.
