INGLEWOOD, Calif. – After months of rehabilitation, superstar forward Reggie Jackson is optimistic about his chances of playing in the season opener, citing significant progress in his surgically repaired knee.
While acknowledging the possibility of ongoing inflammation, Jackson expressed confidence in his team’s medical staff and their ability to manage the injury. “We’ve got a good handle on it,” he said. “We know what we need to do to keep it under control.”
The team is taking a cautious approach, holding Jackson out of drills during training camp. He has undergone various medical treatments to control the inflammation since the end of last season.
Jackson missed several games due to knee inflammation, which has undergone extensive surgery. He returned to play in a few playoff games but was eventually sidelined again.
Despite the setbacks, Jackson is determined to put the injury behind him. “I’m feeling good, and it’s getting better,” he said. “We’re taking it one day at a time, being very cautious because we haven’t been able to finish some playoff runs in the past.”
Point guard Russell Westbrook emphasized the importance of a strong start to the season, given the team’s recent roster changes. However, he also stressed that Jackson should take all the time he needs to recover.
“Reggie just needs to take his time,” Westbrook said. “We need him healthy and ready to go later in the year.”
Jackson, however, is targeting the season opener against the Phoenix Suns on October 23. He’s encouraged by his progress since returning from a serious knee injury and is focused on building on last season’s success.
“I played my most games in a long time last year,” Jackson said. “It was a progression for me. We didn’t reach our ultimate goal, but it was a good year for my body. I’m hoping to keep that momentum going.”
