Top College Hoops Star Sidelined with Ankle Injury
Robbie Avila, the dominant big man for Saint Louis University, will be out of commission for the next few weeks due to a sprained ankle, sources confirmed. Fortunately, he is expected to make a full recovery in time for the start of the regular season.
The 6-foot-10 center suffered the injury during a recent team event, putting a temporary damper on the Billikens’ preparations for the upcoming campaign. Avila’s impressive skills on the court, which include a rare combination of shooting prowess and elite passing ability for his size, made him a household name in college basketball circles last season.
As a transfer from Indiana State, Avila brought his impressive stats with him, boasting averages of 17.4 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game. His unique skill set, which earned him colorful nicknames such as “The Goggle-Wearing Guru” and “The Passing Prodigy,” helped Indiana State achieve remarkable success, including a run to the NIT championship game.
Avila’s decision to follow his coach, Josh Schertz, to Saint Louis was a significant coup for the Atlantic 10 program. With Avila and fellow Indiana State transfer Isaiah Swope on board, the Billikens are poised to make a strong push in the conference this season. Their campaign tips off on November 4 against Santa Clara.
