Top-ranked tennis sensation Carlos Alcaraz is thrilled to have legendary teammate Rafael Nadal joining Spain’s squad for the prestigious Davis Cup quarterfinals in November. Alcaraz hopes that Nadal’s participation in the Malaga event won’t mark the end of his illustrious career.
Nadal’s surprise inclusion in the November 19-24 tournament comes after a lengthy hiatus due to fitness concerns. The 38-year-old tennis icon last competed at the Paris Olympics in July and has since missed several high-profile events, including the US Open and Laver Cup.
Despite Nadal’s recent struggles with a hip injury that required surgery, Alcaraz is optimistic about his teammate’s return. “Having Rafa around is always a privilege,” Alcaraz said. “I’ve missed him, and I’m excited to spend more time with him on and off the court.”
Alcaraz, who partnered with Nadal in doubles at the Paris Games, is focused on enjoying Nadal’s presence in the team rather than speculating about his potential retirement. “Rafa brings a wealth of experience to the Davis Cup, and his guidance will be invaluable to our team,” Alcaraz emphasized.
Fresh from his successful stint at the Laver Cup, where he led Team Europe to victory, Alcaraz is feeling confident about his chances at the upcoming China Open. “My performances at the Laver Cup have given me a huge boost in confidence,” Alcaraz revealed. “Beating top players like Ben Shelton and Taylor Fritz has prepared me well for this tournament, and I’m ready to take on the tough competition ahead.”
