In a thrilling matchup, the Cowboys managed to overcome their habit of trailing in the first quarter, thanks to a strong showing from their offense. After the Giants opened with a field goal drive, the Cowboys responded with a 15-yard screen pass from quarterback Dak Prescott to running back Rico Dowdle, giving them a 7-3 lead.
The drive was not without its challenges, as the team faced several penalties. However, Prescott’s precision passing helped to overcome these obstacles, as he completed all nine passes to six different receivers: CeeDee Lamb, Jalen Tolbert, Jake Ferguson, Brandin Cooks, Hunter Luepke, and Dowdle.
This marked the Cowboys’ first first-quarter lead since their season opener, when they answered an opening-drive field goal by the Browns with a six-play, 70-yard drive. Against the Giants, they went 75 yards on 12 plays, taking 6:57 off the clock.
In the second quarter, the Cowboys scored again, with Prescott connecting with Lamb on a 55-yard touchdown pass. Lamb ran away from cornerback Deonte Banks down the sideline and saw safety Tyler Nubin slip, allowing him to score easily. The touchdown was Lamb’s fifth catch of the game, matching his season high, for 85 yards.
