In a crucial NFC East matchup, the Dallas Cowboys secured a hard-fought 20-15 victory over the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium. However, the win came at a cost as star defender Micah Parsons suffered a left ankle injury in the fourth quarter.
Parsons, who was instrumental in the Cowboys’ defensive effort, was forced to leave the game with 3:30 remaining after being tackled from behind by Giants guard Greg Van Roten. Although X-rays taken at the stadium were negative, Parsons will undergo an MRI on Friday to determine the extent of the damage.
“I’m not too concerned right now,” Parsons said, his ankle heavily taped. “I’ll get the MRI tomorrow and hopefully, it’s nothing serious. I’m planning to be back on the field next week.”
The Cowboys’ defense, which had struggled in recent weeks, held the Giants to a paltry 26 rushing yards on 24 carries. Quarterback Dak Prescott praised Parsons’ performance, saying, “He’s a big-time playmaker. He made a huge run stop on one of those last possessions. I’m hoping it’s not anything serious.”
Prescott threw two touchdown passes in the first half, connecting with CeeDee Lamb and Rico Dowdle, while Brandon Aubrey added two field goals, including a 60-yarder. The Cowboys’ offense was efficient, if not spectacular, but it was enough to secure the win.
Coach Mike McCarthy was relieved to escape with a victory, saying, “Winning on the road is always great, especially in a division game. We realize we have a lot of work to do, but this win gives us momentum heading into our next game.”
The Cowboys will enjoy a 10-day break before facing the Pittsburgh Steelers on October 6, which could aid in Parsons’ recovery. Prescott, meanwhile, extended his winning streak against the Giants to 13 games, tying for the second-longest streak by a quarterback against an opponent.
