In a dominant performance, quarterback phenom Josh Allen led his team to a resounding 47-10 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars, cementing their perfect 3-0 start to the season. Allen’s impressive display saw him throw four touchdown passes, completing 23 of 30 attempts for 263 yards, while also rushing for 44 yards on six carries.
The quarterback’s accuracy and elusiveness were on full display as he decimated the Jaguars’ man defense, going 10-of-14 and accounting for each of his scoring tosses. This marks the fifth time in his career that Allen has achieved four passing touchdowns and a 75% completion rate in a single game, tying him with Matt Ryan for the fifth-most such games in NFL history.
Allen’s performance was reminiscent of his 2021 postseason game against the New England Patriots, where his team scored a touchdown on every drive that didn’t end a half. His total QBR of 92.6 is the best of any quarterback through three games since the statistic was first tracked in 2006.
The Bills’ offense was firing on all cylinders, with four different players catching touchdown passes and two rushing scores from James Cook and Ray Davis. The six players with a touchdown tied for the most in a game in franchise history.
Allen’s ability to spread the ball around and involve multiple players in the offense is a key aspect of his team’s philosophy, dubbed “everybody eats.” This approach emphasizes the importance of every player being prepared and contributing to the team’s success.
One of the beneficiaries of this approach was rookie Keon Coleman, who caught his first career touchdown pass in the second quarter. Coleman’s debut score came after he was benched for the first quarter due to an issue with tardiness, but he made the most of his opportunity, finishing with one target on 19 snaps played.
The Bills’ defense also had a standout performance, with safety Damar Hamlin registering his first career interception in the second quarter. Hamlin’s return to “Monday Night Football” was an emotional one, coming after he suffered cardiac arrest against the Cincinnati Bengals in January 2023.
As the Bills look ahead to their next game against the Baltimore Ravens on “Sunday Night Football,” Allen’s consistent level of play and impressive performances continue to inspire his teammates. “Whether I’m on the sideline or actually on the field, just seeing him run around, making the throws he does, making scramble plays, making guys miss, I mean, doing all this, it’s weirdly not surprising at this point,” said tight end Dawson Knox.
