**Injury Sidelines Star Quarterback Ahead of Crucial Conference Matchup**

The University of Texas has made the difficult decision to bench their star quarterback, Quinn Ewers, for this Saturday’s game against Mississippi State. The coaching staff has opted to prioritize Ewers’ health, aiming to have him fully recovered for the highly anticipated matchup against Oklahoma on October 12.

Ewers, who suffered an oblique injury during the September 14 game against UTSA, has been practicing at limited capacity. Despite showing progress, the team has chosen to err on the side of caution, allowing him to take advantage of the upcoming bye week to fully heal.

In Ewers’ place, backup quarterback Arch Manning will make his first career start in a conference game. Manning previously started against Louisiana Monroe, throwing for 258 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. This opportunity will serve as a valuable test for the young quarterback.

The Mississippi State Bulldogs, meanwhile, are struggling to find their footing, having lost three consecutive games, including two blowout defeats at home to Toledo and Florida. Their defense, ranked 111th nationally in total defense and 107th in scoring defense, will face a significant challenge against the Longhorns.

Compounding Mississippi State’s woes, starting quarterback Blake Shapen will miss the remainder of the season due to a shoulder injury sustained during the Florida game. True freshman Michael Van Buren will make his debut as the Bulldogs’ starting quarterback.
