Formula 1 Champions Gearing Up for Final Stretch
With only six races remaining in the season, reigning champions Red Bull Racing are confident they can regain their momentum after a strong performance in recent street races. Team principal Christian Horner expressed optimism about the team’s chances, citing improvements made to their car.
Triple world champion Max Verstappen, who turns 27 next week, saw his lead over Lando Norris of McLaren dwindle from 62 points to 52 points after the Singapore Grand Prix. Despite this, Horner believes the team is on the right track. “We’ve identified some of the issues with the car and are addressing them,” he said. “We were better in Baku and here in Singapore.”
Verstappen’s fifth-place finish in Baku and second-place finish in Singapore marked a significant improvement from his sixth-place finish at Monza. Horner attributed this to the team’s understanding of the car’s limitations and the development of new strategies. “The car reacted as we hoped it would, and our tools were telling us. We’re starting to get a direction and an understanding of where some of the limitations are.”
While McLaren remains hopeful about their chances in the drivers’ championship, the reality is that Norris still faces an uphill battle. With three sprint races remaining, a maximum of 180 points are still up for grabs. One retirement could dramatically shift the balance of power, but Norris will need to increase his scoring rate to close the gap.
Verstappen, meanwhile, remains confident about his team’s prospects. “We’re pretty pleased, but there’s still a lot of work to do,” he said. “We know that. Hopefully, we can really kick-start things now.”
