A Heartwarming Moment at Hockey Practice
In a touching display of kindness, a former hockey coach was invited to assist with drills during a recent practice session at the Philadelphia Flyers’ training camp. The coach, Guy Gaudreau, is the father of two late hockey players who tragically lost their lives in a car accident last month.
As Gaudreau took to the ice, the Flyers players tapped their sticks in appreciation, showing their respect for the veteran coach. At the end of the session, the team shook his hand, thanking him for his help.
The Flyers’ head coach, John Tortorella, praised Gaudreau’s contribution, saying, “I think it worked out really well today. I gave him my camp book, and we’re going to check in next week to see if we can get him out here a couple more times and have him be part of it.”
Tortorella, who had never met Gaudreau before, extended an open invitation for him to return and help the team at any point. He acknowledged the horrific situation the family is going through and wanted to offer support.
Gaudreau’s presence seemed to bring a sense of comfort to the team, with Tortorella joking that he was even giving him a hard time for yelling at players to skate harder during practice.
The gesture was deeply appreciated by the Gaudreau family, with John’s widow, Meredith, expressing her gratitude on social media. She wrote that her late husband and his brother would have loved the moment, and that it brought a smile to their faces as they watched from heaven.
