This Sunday, the spotlight will be on quarterback sensation, Malik Willis, as he takes the field against his former team, the Tennessee Titans. Willis, who was acquired in a trade with Tennessee in late August, will make his second consecutive start, filling in for the injured Jordan Love. Love, who suffered an MCL sprain in his left knee during the season opener, has been making progress in his recovery and was listed as questionable for the matchup. However, he will be inactive for the game.
In his first start last weekend, Willis led the team to a 16-10 victory over the Indianapolis Colts, completing 12 of 14 passes for 122 yards and throwing a touchdown. When asked about facing his former team, Willis downplayed the significance, stating, “I’m just grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given. The Titans organization took a chance on me, and I’m blessed to be where I am today.”
Meanwhile, Love has been participating in practice, albeit in limited capacity, and his progress will be closely monitored. Coach Matt LaFleur hinted that the team would wait until the last minute to make a decision on Love’s availability, but all signs point to Willis starting again.
As the Packers look ahead to their Week 4 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings on September 29, attention will shift to Love’s potential return to the field. In the meantime, quarterback Sean Clifford has been elevated from the practice squad for the second consecutive week, providing additional depth to the team’s quarterback corps.
