BOSTON — After a successful offseason surgery, star center Kristaps Porzingis is optimistic about his recovery and return to the court. Speaking at the team’s practice facility, Porzingis expressed excitement about his progress, saying, “I’ve been doing a good amount of stuff, doing pretty good… Looking forward to keep making progress at this rate, and hopefully be back out there with the guys as soon as possible.”
Porzingis, who underwent surgery to repair a torn retinaculum and dislocated posterior tibialis tendon in his left leg, is ahead of schedule in his recovery. He’s already started running and participated in his first light-contact workout last weekend. “Walking obviously with no limp… I’m running, I’m on the court, shooting normal,” he said, beaming with confidence.
Despite missing the start of the season, Porzingis is determined to prove himself once again and help his team win a second consecutive championship. “I’m still extremely hungry… I still feel like I have a chip on my shoulder,” he emphasized.
In Porzingis’ absence, the team will rely on a quartet of centers, including veteran Al Horford, Luke Kornet, Xavier Tillman, and Neemias Queta. Horford, entering his 18th NBA season, has no plans to retire and is expected to start whenever he plays. Kornet and Tillman have also successfully recovered from offseason surgeries and are ready for training camp.
Team president Brad Stevens expressed optimism about the team’s overall health, saying, “We’re very, very pleased with where Kristaps is… Maybe a little surprised.” With Porzingis’ return on the horizon, the team is gearing up for another successful season.
