**KENLEY JANSEN’S SEASON IS FUCKED: Sox Closer Hits IL**

TORONTO – In a blow to the Boston Red Sox’s playoff hopes, star closer Kenley Jansen has been sidelined for the remainder of the season due to a nagging right shoulder injury. The 36-year-old veteran was placed on the 15-day injured list Monday, paving the way for right-hander Chase Shugart to be recalled from Triple-A Worcester.

Jansen, who will celebrate his 37th birthday soon, has enjoyed a remarkable 15-year career, boasting an impressive 4-2 record, 3.29 ERA, and 27 saves in 31 opportunities this season. With his contract set to expire at the conclusion of the World Series, Jansen’s future with the Red Sox remains uncertain.

The seasoned reliever last took the mound on Sunday, striking out a batter in a scoreless inning during a split doubleheader sweep against the Minnesota Twins. Following the second game, Red Sox manager Alex Cora hinted that Jansen’s shoulder soreness would likely land him on the injured list.

Throughout his illustrious career, Jansen has established himself as one of the premier closers in the game, having led the National League in saves twice – with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2017 and the Atlanta Braves in 2022. He was a key contributor to the Dodgers’ World Series championship in 2020 and has amassed an impressive 447 career saves, the most among active players and the fourth-highest total in Major League Baseball history.
