In a devastating blow to their defense, the Jacksonville Jaguars suffered yet another setback on Monday night, as rookie defensive back Jarrian Jones went down with a shoulder injury in the first quarter of their 47-10 defeat to the Buffalo Bills.
Already missing starting nickelback Darnell Savage due to a quad injury, the Jaguars were forced to rely on Christian Braswell, who was promoted from the practice squad earlier that day, to fill the slot corner position. With cornerback Tyson Campbell sidelined with a hamstring injury, third-year player Montaric Brown started on the outside in his place.
Jones, a highly touted third-round pick, sustained the injury while attempting to tackle Buffalo running back James Cook. After staying down for a moment, he walked off the field under his own power and headed straight to the locker room for further evaluation.
The Jaguars’ woes continued in the second quarter, as linebacker Foyesade Oluokun exited the game with a foot injury. He received treatment in the medical tent before heading to the locker room and was eventually ruled out early in the fourth quarter. Oluokun, the team’s leading tackler with 19 stops, was replaced by second-year player Ventrell Miller.
