Top-Seeded Tennis Star Forced to Withdraw from Upcoming Tournaments Due to Lingering Back Injury
Kazakh tennis sensation, Elena Rybakina, has announced her withdrawal from upcoming tournaments in Beijing and Wuhan, citing a persistent back issue that has been plaguing her for months. The 25-year-old, who has had a remarkable year with titles in Brisbane, Abu Dhabi, and Stuttgart, has been struggling to regain her form after a series of setbacks.
Rybakina’s decision to pull out of the Asian tournaments comes on the heels of a string of withdrawals from high-profile events, including the Paris Olympics and the US Open. The world No. 4 had been battling bronchitis and a lower back injury, which forced her to concede her opening match at the US Open in August.
In a statement, Rybakina expressed her disappointment at having to withdraw from the tournaments, but emphasized the need to prioritize her health. “I’ve been working diligently on my recovery, but my medical team and I have decided it’s essential to put my well-being first at this time,” she said.
Despite the setbacks, Rybakina remains third in the WTA race to the season finale, scheduled to take place from November 2-9. The former Wimbledon champion is determined to return to the court before the season concludes, and is grateful for the support of her fans and tournament organizers. “This has been a tough year, but I’m thankful for the encouragement I’ve received,” Rybakina added. “My team and I will focus on getting me back to full fitness before the season finale.”
