**Injury Update: Star Running Back to Miss Crucial Matchup**
The Houston football team will be without their top rusher when they face off against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 3. The running back, who suffered an ankle injury in the previous week’s 19-13 win over the Chicago Bears, will not travel with the team.
The injury occurred with 11:57 left in the third quarter when the quarterback completed a pass to the running back, who was brought down by a Bears linebacker. Although the referees did not call a penalty, the running back left the game briefly before returning. Despite finishing the game with 11 carries for 25 yards, the injury has proven to be severe enough to keep him sidelined.
This news comes as a blow to the team, as the running back is currently seventh in the league in rushing yards with 184 yards on the season. To make matters worse, backup running back Dameon Pierce will also miss the game due to a hamstring injury.
In their place, Cam Akers is expected to receive the majority of the carries. Akers, who previously played for the Vikings in 2023, has experience running zone schemes and has impressed the coaching staff with his vision and ability to read the game. “He has great vision and is really good at reading the defense,” said the team’s offensive coordinator. “He plays under control and always finishes physically. We’re confident in his ability to handle the workload.”
