**Sports Update**
The San Francisco Giants have made a key roster move ahead of their Saturday matchup against the Kansas City Royals. Star third baseman Matt Chapman has been reinstated from his brief leave of absence, and he’s set to bat fourth and take the field at third base in the second game of the three-game series.
Chapman had taken time off to welcome the arrival of his newborn daughter, missing four games in the process, including a three-game set against the Baltimore Orioles and Friday’s series opener against the Royals. Although he departed the team prior to Tuesday’s game in Baltimore, the Giants didn’t officially place him on the paternity list until Wednesday.
This season has been a memorable one for Chapman, who inked a six-year, $151 million contract extension with the Giants earlier this month. The four-time Gold Glove winner has posted impressive numbers, batting.247 with 24 home runs and 73 RBIs in 146 games. Prior to joining the Giants, Chapman spent two seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays and five seasons with the Oakland Athletics.
In a corresponding move, the Giants have optioned shortstop Marco Luciano to Triple-A Sacramento. Luciano has struggled at the plate, batting.211 with three RBIs in 27 games with San Francisco.
