PITTSBURGH — A resurgent quarterback is leading his team to new heights, riding a three-game winning streak for the first time in his career. The signal caller, who has faced his fair share of doubters, is feeling more confident than ever, crediting his teammates for his success.
In Sunday’s 20-10 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers, the quarterback rushed for a touchdown and threw for another, showcasing his dual-threat abilities. When asked about proving his detractors wrong, he chose to deflect, focusing instead on his personal growth and the team’s collective effort.
“I’m not worried about what others think,” he said. “I know what kind of player I am, and my teammates help me be great. It’s a credit to them.”
The quarterback’s humility is well-deserved, as the entire team contributed to the win. The defense recorded five sacks and held the Chargers to negative net yards in the second half, while the offense had its first multi-touchdown game of the season.
Coach Mike Tomlin praised the team’s effort, saying, “We knew it was going to be an entertaining game. They’re playing great defense, and we had to challenge our defense to outperform theirs. I thought they did.”
The Steelers’ defense shut down the Chargers’ ground game, holding the league’s leading rusher to just 44 yards on 15 attempts. On the other side of the ball, the Steelers got their run game going in the second half, with Najee Harris rushing for 67 yards on 14 carries.
The quarterback also found success targeting smaller receivers, exploiting the middle of the field for big gains. His 55-yard touchdown pass to Calvin Austin III was a highlight of the game.
Despite being outgained in the first half, the Steelers flipped the script in the second half, gaining 234 yards while holding the Chargers to minus-5 yards of offense.
“We knew what kind of game we were going to be in, and we knew that we didn’t play well enough in the first half,” the quarterback said. “We had a couple of miscues in the first half, and we knew we were better than that, so Coach T challenged us at halftime to play better and be better, and we came out second half and did just that.”
The quarterback finished 25-of-32 for 245 yards, his most passing yards yet this season. He acknowledged feeling more comfortable with each passing week, citing his improved ability to see the field and remain calm under pressure.
His teammates have taken notice of his growth as well, praising his ability to settle down and break down defenses. As the Steelers look to continue their winning streak, their quarterback is poised to lead the charge.
