Rugby League’s Elite Players Choose Their Dream Team
In a prestigious honor, Dylan Edwards has been voted the top fullback in the sport by his fellow players. This recognition comes just three months after he took over as the NSW State of Origin fullback, replacing a legendary player. Edwards is one of four players from his team to make the cut, joining Brian To’o, Jarome Luai, and Isaah Yeo.
Edwards’ selection is particularly noteworthy, as he’s currently vying for the Australian Test No.1 jersey in the upcoming Pacific Championships. His main competitors for the spot are two seasoned players, with another contender expected to undergo shoulder surgery.
This marks a significant shift, as Edwards’ predecessor had dominated the fullback position in previous years. However, Edwards has now earned the respect of his peers, who have voted him the best player in his position.
Other first-time selections include Melbourne’s Jahrome Hughes, who was voted the season’s top halfback, and Zac Lomax, Mitch Barnett, Eli Katoa, and Luai, who all made the team for the first time. Terrell May was also recognized as the inaugural “impact player” of the year.
According to the CEO of the Rugby League Players’ Association, being chosen by one’s peers is a tremendous honor. “These players have demonstrated their ability to change games, inspire their teammates, and drive their teams to victory,” he said.
The complete Dream Team lineup is as follows:
Dylan Edwards, Zac Lomax, Stephen Crichton, Herbie Farnworth, Brian To’o, Jarome Luai, Jahrome Hughes, Addin Fonua-Blake, Harry Grant, Mitchell Barnett, Angus Crichton, Eli Katoa, Isaah Yeo, and Terrell May as the impact player.
