In the world of professional football, one kicker stands out for his remarkable accuracy. With a career spanning over a decade, this seven-time Pro Bowl athlete has consistently demonstrated exceptional skill. However, this season has been a different story. For the first time in his illustrious career, he has missed a field goal in three consecutive games.
The usually reliable kicker has been struggling with his technique, pushing his attempts wide left. His recent misses have been from 53, 56, and 46 yards, respectively. As a result, his success rate has plummeted to 62.5%, ranking him last among kickers with at least three attempts.
Despite this slump, his coach remains confident in his abilities. “It’s just a minor issue he’s working through,” the coach explained. “He knows exactly what’s going on and just needs to refine his technique. I have no doubt he’ll get back on track.”
Throughout his career, this kicker has maintained an impressive 89.7% conversion rate, solidifying his position as the most accurate kicker in the league. His long-range kicks, however, have been a concern lately. After making an impressive 67% of his kicks beyond 50 yards in his first 11 seasons, he has struggled to replicate that success, converting only 1 of 8 attempts from 50 or longer in the past two seasons.
In a recent game, his 46-yard attempt veered left, marking only his second miss under 50 yards in an indoor or retractable roof stadium. As the clock ticked down, his coach offered words of encouragement, emphasizing the team’s support for their star kicker. “Justin knows we believe in him,” the coach said. “He’s a professional, and I have every confidence he’ll bounce back.”
