The Final Countdown: Fantasy Baseball’s Championship Week
We’ve reached the ultimate showdown in fantasy baseball – Week 26, the last hurrah of the 2024 MLB season. This week marks the culmination of two-week championship matchups, and by Sunday, September 29, league champions will be crowned across all fantasy baseball leagues. With no tiebreakers or “Game 163s” to decide playoff spots, every game counts.
In a thrilling finale, MLB has synchronized the start times of all 15 games on September 29, ensuring a dramatic conclusion to the season. The action kicks off between 3:05 and 3:20 p.m. ET, with fantasy managers on the edge of their seats.
While it’s not the busiest week, there are 97 total games to navigate, with only one make-up game – the Atlanta Braves hosting the New York Mets, rescheduling their April 10 postponement. Every team gets at least one day off, with a maximum of six games for each team. The Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Guardians have a relatively light schedule, with only five games on tap.
As teams clinch playoff spots or jockey for position, expect to see regulars rested and pitching rotations shuffled in preparation for the postseason. Eliminated teams, on the other hand, may shut down injured players or give young talent a chance to shine.
For fantasy managers, the key to success lies in targeting players from teams still fighting for a wild card spot. As of now, these teams are within three games of a wild card spot and should be highly motivated: Arizona Diamondbacks, Atlanta Braves, Detroit Tigers, Kansas City Royals, Minnesota Twins, New York Mets, and Seattle Mariners. With five of six division leaders holding comfortable leads, focus on the wild card contenders for the best chance at fantasy glory.
Good luck in your championship quest!
